Legendary "Dukes of Hazzard" duo John Schneider and Tom Wopat are helping support Charlotte-area children in need by headlining the Generals' Christmas Concert hosted by the Charlotte Chapter of Speedway Children's Charities on Dec. 1.

The Monday night event in The Speedway Club will include a silent auction and cocktails at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Wopat and Schneider will take the stage at 8 p.m. to perform songs from their recently released holiday album "Home for Christmas." The evening will also include a special check presentation for more than $2 million to represent the funds raised in 2014 by all eight chapters of SCC across the country.

The Christmas Concert will follow SCC-Charlotte’s annual grant distribution to local nonprofits, which will be held that afternoon. This year, SCC Charlotte will distribute more than $400,000 in grants to 64 nonprofits throughout the Charlotte region to improve the lives of children in educational, financial, social and medical need.

“This is a special time of year, not only because of the holiday season, but because we get the opportunity to give back to several deserving charities with our grant distribution,” said Marcus Smith, president of the Charlotte Chapter of SCC. “What better way to ring in the holidays than helping children in need, listening to Christmas music and having some fun with the original Dukes of Hazzard, Bo and Luke Duke. This will be a truly special evening.”

Those interested in attending the fundraising event can purchase a ticket for $125 by calling Lisa Starnes at 704-455-4426 or emailing her at [email protected]. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Charlotte Chapter of SCC.

SCC Charlotte is one of eight chapters located at each of the Speedway Motorsports Inc. (SMI) tracks: Atlanta Motor Speedway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Charlotte Motor Speedway, Kentucky Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Sonoma Raceway.
